Everybody sing: The hills are dead……..

Posted on October 22, 2010 by sonjabarrie

Sad but true.  Not only would I starve if I had to sing for my supper but the hills around these parts really do seem more dead than alive.  I don't think Julie Andrews would have much to sing about, well at least until next spring anyway.

Everywhere you look all you see are blackened bushes, shrubs and side of hills, very depressing.  These hills are the foothills of the Oquirrh Mountains and this time of year they are usually covered in golds and reds, fabulous fall colors.

However, since the fire this is all you see from our front porch:

Side of a hill after the fire in Herriman, it should be gold, red and green not all burnt!

Side of a hill after the fire in Herriman, it should be gold, red and green not all burnt!  The house that burnt is about 500 yards behind and to the left of this house.

Picture of the results of the Fire in Herriman

You can see where the wind caused the fire to skip some areas.

Fire in Herriman showing some burnt spots

Fire in Herriman showing some burnt spots, the wind was very strong but also very changeable so it would skip and double back on itself continually.  At least in this picture you can still see some of the lovely red from the scrub oak.

Fire in Herriman, nowhere for the deer to forage

Looks more like the moon than Herriman!  You can see why there is nowhere for the deer to forage but at least it will grow back next spring.  This is just the edge of the fire, further back over the mountain is FAR worse.
